Prophetic Orientalism

It was a bit grueling to get through, but now that I’m done with Orientalism I’m wondering why I didn’t read it before coming to Jordan. For all those interested, the book is up for the taking. First come first serve.
Read this one paragraph and realize how brilliant and relevant the material is for the present, and the book was written between 1975-76.
“Thus as a revolutionary turmoil grips the Islamic Orient, sociologists remind us that Arabs are addicted to “oral functions,” while economists – recycled Orientalists – observe that for modern Islam neither capitalism nor socialism is an adequate rubric. As anticolonialism sweeps and indeed unifies the entire Oriental world, the Orientalist damns the whole business not only as a nuisance but as an insult to the Western democracies.” pg 108

first I dont think there is modern or willbe a modern nor there was an old fashion islam!, Islam Is Islam !!

second I would like to note the fact that Islam' Economy is a mix between capitalism and socialism.

And regarding the cover of the book, did you see something like that in the arab world. well I dont think so you may see it in a western ography. I belive this cover was made to attract the western reader to buy the book !

By the way can you tell me how this material applied to present ?

Since its publication, Said's Orientalism has been troubled by critiques of what it's left out as much as for what it's included.

That Said was able to ignore the contributions of both German and Russian "orientalists" is pretty breathtaking. It calls into deep question his intent to write an honest book.
